Date night ideas at home you can do with your significant other on a budget that will still allow for some quality time together

Hey again! Carmen here 🙂 Full disclosure: I am not a hopeless romantic. I'm actually not really a romantic person at all. I'm one of those girls that the most romantic thing you can do for me is tell me how much money you saved by switching to Geico.
But one thing we decided early on our marriage was that we would always do our best to make our marriage a priority, even when kids entered into the picture. Well, lo and behold, kids have not only entered but pretty much taken over the picture. Now, the picture is super cute and full of baby chubbiness and toddler dance moves, but they (try to) run this show now, let's not kid ourselves.
The good thing for us is we have family close that can take care of them, but it's often just not in the budget to get a sitter. Which means we now have a lot of date nights at home. So, I'd love to share some ideas with you about some at home date night ideas that Jordan and I have found super fun in our nearly 7 years of marriage.

Date Night Ideas At Home
Dress up and cook

If you were going out to a fancy dinner, you most likely would wear something nice to do it. Why not dress up and have a really nice steak dinner? If you aren't the cooking type, get fancy takeout and walk in your fancy stuff to pick it up. It'll be fun!
Play a game together

Now, I know some of you are the board game or puzzle people. If any of you have read my blog at all, you're very aware of my love for true crime. This Hunt A Killer games is actually a SUBSCRIPTION SERVICE! My husband knows how much I love a good crime so he got a subscription for me for my birthday!
Build something together
Hear me out - I'm not talking about something like gutting your entire guest bathroom and then taking 9 months to put it back together. I mean something small. Something manageable. The point in this is to do something that may bond you together, not make you want to pull out one another's hair strand by strand.
Leave the house

But wait, that doesn't make sense. These are at home date night ideas, right? Yep! But sometimes just a quick trip to your back porch for a cup of coffee or if you don't have a porch, just a seat on a picnic blanket in your backyard can provide some great conversation opportunities.
Other At Home Date Night Ideas:

- Pick a movie on Netflix or your Roku that neither of you have seen, pop popcorn and watch it.
- Dance to one of your favorite songs together.
- Invent a super secret special date night handshake.
- Create a random playlist and play Name That Tune with one another to see who can figure out the song the quickest.
A couple important things to note - don't be confined to the time of day! A date doesn't have to be at night! It can be in the afternoon or even a sweet little breakfast date. Another boundary we like to put on date nights is no phones and we are allowed a small subset of time to discuss things regarding the kids, but get it out of the way and then table it for later. Date night is time to invest in your marriage or relationship and there will be a day when kids are grown and gone and you'll be left with just you two!
