Chicken spaghetti is basically the ultimate comfort food. It’s easy to make with grocery store rotisserie chicken or your own crockpot pulled chicken. Toss the chicken with al dente pasta, plenty of cheese, and a rich, creamy sauce. Then you pop it in the oven and bake until it’s hot and bubbly. Add a simple vegetable, fresh salad, or warm bread on the side, and dinner is done.

For something a little more Italian-inspired, try my Cheesy Chicken Alfredo Spaghetti. This creamy pasta dish takes just 10 minutes to prep – even with the homemade Alfredo sauce! Bake until golden brown. You’ll have dinner on the table in about 35 minutes.

A fork is holding a piece of pasta with cheese and tomatoes.

My Chicken Spaghetti with Ro-Tel combines shredded chicken, cream cheese, cheddar, mozzarella, onion, basil, and diced tomatoes and green chiles (Ro-Tel) for a creamy chicken spaghetti casserole with a little kick. You can even add diced bell peppers for extra color and flavor. It takes just 15 minutes to prep and 40 minutes total.

A fork twirling chicken broccoli pasta bake in a creamy sauce.

My mother-in-law loves my Chicken Broccoli Pasta Bake, which is made with store-bought or homemade cream soup with onion, garlic, broccoli, and cheese, plus the required chicken and spaghetti. I also top this one with mozzarella and bake it until bubbly and golden.

These sides are delicious with all sorts of cheesy pasta dishes like my creamy chicken pasta bake, Monterey spaghetti, chicken bacon pasta, garlic parmesan chicken pasta, and even my lemon garlic shrimp scampi.

No matter which version you’re making, don’t overthink the sides. The best chicken spaghetti sides add freshness, crunch, or a contrasting flavor to all that creamy goodness.

Vegetable Side Dishes for Chicken Spaghetti

If you’ve got picky eaters, consider what you can add to your vegetable side dishes to make them more interesting. I love flavored butter, and cowboy butter dipping sauce is delicious on all sorts of sautéed and roasted veggies. A drizzle of lemon vinaigrette or balsamic vinegar is also a great way to add flavor. Of course, you can also serve fresh veggies with creamy ranch dressing or a Greek yogurt dip if you don’t feel like cooking more!

Garlic Green Beans

Garlic Green Beans from Juggling Act Mama.

These green beans are one of my favorite delicious sides for creamy chicken spaghetti because the fresh lemon, garlic, and crisp-tender beans cut through the rich sauce.

These yummy green beans are made with sliced garlic, a little lemon zest, and cowboy butter, but you can also use dill butter or garlic basil butter. You only need 5 minutes to prep this easy skillet vegetable side dish.

Honey Glazed Baby Carrots

A glass bowl filled with cooked baby carrots garnished with herbs.

Honey Glazed Baby Carrots from Juggling Act Mama.

These baby carrots add just enough sweetness to balance a savory, cheesy chicken spaghetti bake. Baby carrots make prep easy because you don’t have to peel or chop, and the recipe card calls for literally just 2 minutes of prep!

The honey and tarragon give these vegetables plenty of flavor without competing with the creamy pasta.

Roasted Broccoli

A grey bowl filled with roasted broccoli florets sprinkled with crispy garlic and salt.

Roasted Broccoli from Juggling Act Mama.

Roasted Broccoli is a light, flavorful side dish. It takes only 5 minutes to prep, so it’s a great choice for easy dinners. All you have to do is toss the broccoli florets with olive oil, garlic, and Parmesan. Bake until the edges turn golden brown. This side dish adds nice color and texture alongside soft, creamy chicken spaghetti.

Roasted Sweet Potatoes

A square white plate piled with roasted sweet potato cubes topped with herbs and shredded cheese, garnished with fresh rosemary sprigs.

Crispy Roasted Sweet Potatoes from Juggling Act Mama.

These savory sweet potatoes with rosemary and parmesan cook right in the oven, so there’s no need to boil and drain them first.

Chicken spaghetti usually bakes at 350°F, so put your sweet potatoes in at 400°F first while you assemble your casserole, then turn the heat down to finish both dishes at the same time.

Sautéed Asparagus

Sautéed asparagus with cranberries, toasted pine nuts and parmesan cheese.

Sautéed Asparagus from Juggling Act Mama.

Sautéed Asparagus is a nice choice when you want something fresh and a little more colorful beside your casserole. Tart cranberries, toasted pine nuts, citrus, and Parmesan add texture and flavor that contrast with a creamy pasta dish.

However, you can totally make this easy side dish without all the extras, and it will still be delicious. Prep takes about 10 minutes, and the asparagus itself cooks quickly on the stovetop, so you can make it while the chicken spaghetti finishes baking.

Corn Casserole

Cheesy Corn Casserole from Juggling Act Mama.

If you’re looking for the ultimate comfort food dinner, pair this side with your chicken spaghetti. It’s loaded with bacon and cheese (your kids may not even notice the corn!)

It’s a bit rich, especially with the creamy chicken spaghetti, so consider adding a fresh side salad.

Roasted Cauliflower

Cowboy Butter Cauliflower Bites from Juggling Act Mama.

If plain cauliflower won’t excite anyone at your table, this side dish might change their minds. Garlic, herbs, lemon, butter, and Parmesan turn mild cauliflower into a crispy side with enough bold flavor to stand up to a rich chicken spaghetti sauce. They need just 5 minutes of prep, then the oven does the rest for this delicious side dish.

Roasted Butternut Squash

Roasted Butternut Squash from Juggling Act Mama.

Cinnamon Butternut Squash adds a completely different flavor to your meal while staying warm and cozy. The slightly sweet squash keeps the meal from tasting too rich or one-note.

You only need a handful of super simple ingredients for this one! Prep takes about 10 minutes with brown sugar and cinnamon. Then just roast the squash until tender.

Cowboy Butter Mushrooms

Cowboy Butter Mushrooms from Juggling Act Mama.

White button mushrooms cook in a buttery garlic-and-herb sauce that delivers tons of flavor with minimal effort. They take just 5 minutes to prep and about 25 minutes total, and you don’t even have to chop the mushrooms. They’re a little richer than some of the other vegetable sides here, but their earthy, savory flavor pairs well with a creamy chicken and al dente spaghetti casserole.

This recipe also calls for my favorite cowboy butter, but you could also use garlic chive butter or Caesar butter if you prefer.

Honey Butter Corn

A wooden spoon stirring a mixture of yellow and white corn kernels in a black cast-iron skillet.

Honey Butter Corn from Juggling Act Mama.

Forget corn on the cob. This skillet corn is sweet, creamy, and incredibly easy to make with either canned corn or frozen corn. You only need a couple of minutes to stir butter, honey, and cream cheese into the skillet with the corn. It’s ready in about 17 minutes total, making this one of the fastest sides on the list. A few creamy spoonfuls alongside savory chicken spaghetti are especially good if your family likes a sweet-and-salty combo.

Salads and Fresh Sides

These salads are perfect when you don’t want to have to cook anything else. Of course, a classic Caesar salad with Caesar dressing always works, but if you want to get creative, here are some great salads that go with chicken spaghetti. Some of them can even be prepped ahead of time and enjoyed for more than one meal.

Asian Purple Cabbage Slaw

Close up of Asian Purple Cabbage Slaw with serving utensils.

Asian Purple Cabbage Slaw from Juggling Act Mama.

This Purple Cabbage Slaw adds the crunch creamy chicken spaghetti lacks. Cabbage and carrots are tossed with rice vinegar, honey, soy sauce, sesame oil, and fresh ginger for a sweet, tangy, savory combination. With just 10 minutes of prep and no cooking, it’s an easy way to get more veggies onto the dinner table.

Avocado Corn Tomato Salad

Avocado Corn Tomato Salad from Juggling Act Mama.

This easy side is exactly what it sounds like: fresh diced tomatoes, avocado, and corn with a little red onion, some jalapeño, and bell peppers, dressed with fresh lime juice.

Cowboy caviar also makes a great side for chicken spaghetti casserole.

Roasted Beet Salad

A salad of roasted beet cubes and orange segments topped with crumbled cheese and a side of greens on a scalloped plate.

Roasted Beet Salad from Juggling Act Mama.

Earthy roasted beets, oranges, crunchy pecans, fresh mint, and salty cotija make this salad a fresh contrast to a creamy pasta bake. The citrus and vinaigrette help balance the richness of all that chicken and cheese without making the meal feel too heavy.

Prep takes about 10 minutes. I like to roast the beets ahead of time (like on the weekend) and then assemble the salad at dinner.

Honey Lime Fruit Salad

Close up of a bowl of Honey Lime Fruit Salad.

Honey Lime Fruit Salad from Juggling Act Mama.

Honey Lime Fruit Salad is a good pick if your family isn’t big on green salads. Make this salad with whatever fresh fruit you have in your refrigerator. The bright lime dressing and fruit are refreshing alongside a hot, cheesy casserole and make the meal feel lighter.

It takes just 10 minutes to make and requires no cooking, which is exactly the kind of side dish I want on a busy night.

Winter Citrus Salad

A salad with mixed greens, sliced cucumbers, avocado, orange segments, pomegranate seeds, and almonds in a white bowl with a fork.

Winter Citrus Salad from Juggling Act Mama.

Winter Citrus Salad is one of my favorite ways to brighten up your cozy chicken spaghetti dinner. Mixed greens, oranges, clementines, cucumber, avocado, pomegranate, and almonds bring crisp, juicy, creamy, and crunchy textures to one plate. Again, no cooking is required, and it comes together in about 15 minutes.

Serve with creamy avocado ranch dressing, orange poppyseed dressing, or even pomegranate vinaigrette.

Spinach Goat Cheese Salad

A salad with fresh spinach leaves, apple slices, crispy bacon pieces, feta cheese, and finely chopped shallots, all arranged on a white plate.

Spinach Goat Cheese Salad from Juggling Act Mama.

This simple salad adds much-needed freshness and crunch to a rich chicken spaghetti dinner. Crisp apples, spinach, bacon, goat cheese, and optional nuts deliver sweet, salty, creamy, and crunchy flavors in one easy side. The tangy dressing cuts through the creamy casserole, and you can also serve it with my lemon mustard vinaigrette for another bright, zesty option.

To make it easier on busy weeknights, cook the bacon ahead of time (and hide it in the back of the fridge in an airtight container!)

Crunchy Asian Salad

Crunchy Asian Salad: a vibrant salad with shredded cabbage, red cabbage, carrots, bell peppers, green onions, cashews, crunchy noodles, and herbs in a white bowl, with a fork resting inside.

Crunchy Asian Salad from Juggling Act Mama.

Crunchy Asian Salad is a great choice when your chicken spaghetti is rich and cheesy because it adds crisp texture to the plate. Cabbage, colorful veggies, cashews, crunchy noodles, and a sesame dressing make every bite fresh and flavorful. Even better, it needs no cooking and takes just 15 minutes to assemble.

Strawberry Grape Fruit Salad

A fruit salad of sliced strawberries, green grapes, and dark grapes in a glass bowl, drizzled with orange juice dressing and garnished with fresh mint leaves.

Strawberry Grape Salad from Juggling Act Mama.

Strawberry Grape Salad with orange dressing adds a fresh, juicy element to an otherwise cozy comfort-food dinner. Strawberries, grapes, berries, and other favorite fruits toss with a lightly sweet orange-and-vanilla dressing that tastes bright alongside creamy chicken spaghetti. It takes about 20 minutes to prepare, and you can make it ahead and keep it chilled until dinner.

Italian Green Bean Salad

A white bowl filled with green beans, sliced red peppers, and slivered almonds, topped with two lemon slices, sits on a wooden board with fresh herbs and a pepper shaker in the background.

Italian Green Bean Salad from Juggling Act Mama.

Italian Green Bean Salad combines crisp-tender green beans with roasted red peppers, fresh basil, almonds, and a simple lemon dressing. The fresh lemon and crunchy vegetables are a nice contrast to the creamy sauce and tender pasta in chicken spaghetti casserole. It takes only 10 minutes to prep and 20 minutes to cook, and you can make it a day ahead and keep it chilled until dinner.

Bread, Rolls, and Biscuits

Listen, I almost never say no to carbs. And just because I’m serving pasta doesn’t mean I don’t want to double down on the carbs! Here are some of my favorite homemade recipes for buttery or cheesy bread sides.

Pizza Dough Breadsticks

Italian Breadsticks with herbs and cheese in a basket with a kitchen cloth next to marinara sauce.

Pizza Dough Breadsticks from Juggling Act Mama.

If you have a little extra time, these breadsticks are a fun alternative to garlic bread.

Soft, buttery Italian Breadsticks are pretty hard to resist next to any creamy pasta dinner. This shortcut recipe starts with store-bought pizza dough, so you can have warm breadsticks on the table in about 35 minutes with only 10 minutes of prep. Bake them until golden brown, then use them to scoop up any extra creamy sauce left on the plate.

You can also serve with tomato sauce or even tomato butter for added flavor.

Cheddar Bacon Muffins

Close up of cheddar and bacon muffins in a baking pan.

Cheddar Bacon Muffins from Juggling Act Mama.

Cheddar Bacon Muffins are a savory alternative to traditional dinner rolls, loaded with crispy bacon and melted cheddar. They take just 10 minutes to prep and are ready in about 30 minutes, so you can bake them while you put dinner together. They’re definitely richer, but the salty bacon and sharp cheddar make them an especially fun side when you’re leaning into chicken spaghetti as the ultimate comfort food.

Garlic Cheese Bombs

Garlic Cheese Bombs from Juggling Act Mama.

I adore these bite-size dough knots topped with Parmesan and brushed with garlic-herb butter!

They’re ready in only 15 minutes with about 5 minutes of prep, so they’re one of my favorite last-minute bread options. They’re definitely on the richer side, but sometimes you just crave a super cheesy meal!

Garlic Knots

Easy Garlic Knots from Juggling Act Mama.

Garlic Knots are another easy shortcut bread made with pizza dough, and these can be fun to make with the kids if you have the time (and patience!). They take about 10 minutes to prep and 25 minutes to bake, so you can bake them alongside dinner. The buttery garlic flavor pairs perfectly with creamy pasta recipes.

Buttery Dinner Rolls

Seven golden-brown dinner rolls seasoned with herbs in a small cast-iron skillet.

Buttery Dinner Rolls from Juggling Act Mama.

These soft dinner rolls start with frozen dough. The total time is longer because the frozen rolls need time to rise. Take these out before work and let them rise on the countertop during the day. When you get home, add the butter and seasonings, then bake. They’re an easy way to put warm, fluffy rolls on the table without making dough from scratch. I love low-effort recipes like this one!

If you have leftover cranberry sauce, whip up a quick batch of cranberry butter to serve with these.

Butter Swim Biscuits

A square baking dish containing a golden-brown casserole with a crusty, uneven surface, perfect as one of many side dishes for baked ham.

Butter Swim Biscuits from Juggling Act Mama.

Butter Swim Biscuits have crisp, buttery edges and a soft, fluffy center, perfect for soaking up any creamy sauce left on your plate. They take just over 30 minutes from start to finish and don’t require the rolling and cutting you usually associate with homemade biscuits. If you want a cozy bread to go with a chicken spaghetti bake without making yeast dough, these are a great option.

Cheesy Cornbread

Close up of piece of Cheddar Cornbread.

Cheesy Cornbread from Juggling Act Mama.

Cheesy Cornbread has crisp edges, a tender center, and enough cheddar to make it feel like true comfort food. It takes only 5 minutes to prep and about 25 minutes total, so you can mix it up while the pasta cooks.

This is an especially fun side for Chicken Spaghetti with Ro-Tel because the slightly sweet cornbread tastes great with the tomatoes and green chilies.

Cheddar and Jalapeno Biscuits

A stack of three savory cheddar and herb biscuits on a wooden cutting board.

Cheddar and Jalapeno Biscuits from Juggling Act Mama.

These biscuits add a little heat to balance the creamy, cheesy flavors in chicken spaghetti. Sharp cheddar and chopped jalapeños are baked right into light, flaky homemade biscuits, giving you plenty of flavor without needing an extra topping. They take 15 minutes to prep and just 27 minutes total, making homemade biscuits completely doable on a weeknight.

Texas Roadhouse Rolls

A pile of golden-brown dinner rolls on a white plate.

Texas Roadhouse Rolls from Juggling Act Mama.

These copycat Texas Roadhouse Rolls are fluffy, buttery, and perfect for scooping up the creamy sauce from a chicken spaghetti casserole. They do require some planning because the yeast dough needs time to rise, with about 1 hour 45 minutes total, but most of that time is hands-off. This is a good weekend baking project that you can enjoy all week long.

Serve the warm rolls with Texas Roadhouse Butter for the classic cinnamon-honey combination, or try brown sugar butter for another sweet-and-buttery option.
