Tips for Perfect Turkey!
- Buy your frozen turkey at least a week before Thanksgiving, so you have plenty of time to thaw it. Plan on about 24 hours in the refrigerator for every 4 to 5 pounds of turkey. Trust me, you don’t want to discover your turkey is still frozen on Thanksgiving morning!
- There’s no need to rinse your turkey before cooking. In fact, washing raw poultry can spread bacteria around your sink and countertops. Just pat it dry with paper towels before seasoning.
- Use a meat thermometer to check for doneness instead of relying on cooking times or that little pop-up timer. Your turkey is ready when the thickest part of the breast, thigh, and wing reaches 165°F.
- Once your turkey is cooked, let it rest for about 20 to 30 minutes before carving. This helps keep the meat juicy and gives you a little extra time to finish up those side dishes.

How Much Turkey do I need?
Plan on about 1½ pounds per person for a whole turkey, especially if you want leftovers. For a bone-in turkey breast, allow ¾ to 1 pound per person. If you’re cooking a boneless turkey breast, ½ pound per person should do the trick.
