This artisan bread is a great bread recipe that requires just 10 minutes of prep time, and less than an hour of cook time, for a golden brown crusty bread whenever you need it. It makes the perfect side dish for nearly any meal and will surely be a crowdpleaser.
There's no kneading to make this bread! You don't even need a warm place for it to rise and no special equipment. No fancy ingredients like bread flour, either. Honest-to-goodness this is the easiest bread recipe you'll ever make.
You will need to plan ahead though because this no knead Dutch oven bread needs to rest and rise for 12-18 hours. I like to make it just before I go to bed, then I can bake it in the morning.

🔪 Instructions
Here's how to make your own cheese bread:
- In a large bowl, whisk together the dry ingredients.
- Mix in the room temperature water until a sticky dough forms.
- Stir in the shredded cheese.
- Lightly spray your dough with cooking spray (or a light layer of olive oil). Cover bowl with plastic wrap. Allow the dough to rest for about 12-18 hours in a draft-free place.
- Place the empty Dutch oven into the oven and preheat the oven to 450F degrees.
- Meanwhile, flour your work surface and roll out the bread dough into the flour until it forms a ball.
- When the oven has reached 450F degrees, remove the hot Dutch oven and carefully line it with parchment paper. Place dough ball inside.
- Cover and allow the bread to bake for 30 minutes.
- Remove the lid from your Dutch oven, place the Dutch oven back into the oven, and cook for 15-20 minutes more or until golden brown.
- Remove from the pan and place it on a wire rack to cool for a little bit.

🍲 Storage
To Store: Leftover Dutch Oven Cheese Bread should be stored in an airtight container or resealable bag. Because there are no preservatives, it will only last a few days. (These are my favorite airtight containers.)
To Freeze: Wrap the cooled bread in aluminum foil, then slide into a freezer bag. Label and store in the freezer for 1-2 months.
To Thaw: Allow the bread to thaw in the fridge overnight.
📖 Variations
The first time you try any new recipe we recommend that you make it just as it is written on the recipe card since that is how our easy bread recipe has been tested. However, the next time you make our recipe, you might want to try one of these ideas:
You can substitute a third of the all-purpose flour for whole wheat flour if you prefer. Of course, this recipe can also be made with 1:1 gluten-free flour.
For more flavor, whisk in 1-2 tablespoons of Italian seasoning or ranch seasoning to the dry ingredients.
Asiago Cheese Bread: substitute asiago cheese in place of the cheddar cheese.
Jalapeno Cheddar Bread: once the bread is in the vessel, top it with round slices of fresh jalapeno. You can also use pepper jack cheese for more spice.
Herb Cheese Bread: mix 1-2 tablespoons of fresh herbs into the bread dough. Basil, rosemary, thyme, sage, and chives are all delicious.
