Benihana’s garlic butter is a great way to use basic pantry staples to elevate your butter – and everything you put it on!
This simple recipe incorporates cooking staples such as lemon, soy sauce, and garlic cloves to make a delicious butter recipe that tastes just like the one from the restaurant. With this easy recipe, you can make your own version at home.
The unique flavor of this butter comes from the combination of soy sauce and roasted garlic.

Ingredients
Here are the simple ingredients you’ll need to make the infamous Benihana garlic butter at home!
- Roasted Garlic: This is the most essential ingredient, and your butter won’t taste the same without it. Raw garlic has a very different flavor. Tip: Start with the garlic paste at room temperature so it does not melt the butter.
- Soy Sauce: I like to use low-sodium soy sauce.
- Black Pepper: Freshly cracked black pepper adds a much more intense aroma and flavor to the butter. If you’re using dried pepper, taste the mixture and adjust as needed.
- Lemon Juice: Fresh lemon juice is always best when
- Unsalted Butter: Salted butter will also work, but I find that using unsalted allows me to control the flavor a little bit better. You can always add a pinch of salt if you need it.
