You can never have enough Chicken Casserole Recipes!
This collection features some of the best chicken casserole recipes I've ever tasted! Included, you'll find traditional recipes for oven baked casseroles, as well as those you can make in your crockpot or instant pot. We've also included low-carb, keto, and gluten-free ideas.
5 Components of a Casserole
Just about anything can go into a casserole, which is usually made in a 9x13 baking dish.
- Protein - chicken, ground beef, fish, tofu
- Creamy Filling - usually a base of condensed cream soup or some type of white sauce.
- Grain or Starch - such as rice, pasta, quinoa, or potatoes.
- Vegetables - green beans, carrots, broccoli, and tomatoes are all common.
- Topping - often cheesy, sometimes with cracker crumbs or breadcrumbs on top.
Shortcuts for Chicken Casseroles
Whether you use leftover chicken or rotisserie chicken, there are lots of ways to shorten the prep time. My favorite way is to use this Healthy Pulled Chicken Recipe. This slow cooker recipe makes it so simple to whip up a couple of different meals in no time at all. It's a great time saver, and frugal, too. You can use this recipe with chicken breasts or chicken thighs.
I also highly recommend using what's already in your pantry, fridge, and freezer. If a recipe calls for green beans but you have frozen broccoli - use it!
