⭐ Tips

✔️ I love using fresh berries when they are in season. Otherwise, frozen berries work just as well.

Storage

Fruit smoothies like this raspberry and banana smoothie are best when you first make them. However, you can use the leftover smoothie to make your own fruity ice pops. It’s a fantastic sweet treat and the kids won’t miss all the extra sugar!

All you need to do is pour the smoothie mixture into an ice cube tray and freeze it. Once frozen, transfer the frozen smoothie cubes to a freezer bag or airtight container and label. These frozen cubes can be used to make future smoothies instead of using ice or frozen fruit.

📖 Variations

We always recommend that the first time you try a new recipe you make it just as it is written on the recipe card. That’s the way the smoothie recipe has been tested. However, the next time you make our raspberry banana smoothie recipe, you might want to try one of these ideas:

  • Any milk you prefer will work in this recipe including cow’s milk, oat milk, cashew milk, almond milk, soy milk, coconut milk, etc. (Note that our nutritional data below will vary depending on the liquid you choose).
  • For a thicker smoothie, add 1-2 cups of ice cubes. Frozen banana slices will also make the smoothie thicker.
  • If you prefer, substitute orange juice or apple juice in place of the milk.
  • I love using local honey to sweeten smoothies. You can also use maple syrup or agave nectar.
  • For additional protein, add a tablespoon or two of flax seeds or a scoop of your favorite protein powder.

Raspberry Banana Smoothie Bowl

You can also use this basic recipe to make a smoothie bowl instead. Since you’ll want a thicker smoothie base, reduce the liquid by half. You can also add a little bit of yogurt, cottage cheese, almond butter, or peanut butter to the mixture to thicken it.

Then, just top your smoothie bowl with more fresh fruit or banana slices, along with homemade granola, seeds, or nuts as desired, and enjoy immediately. I really love slivered almonds with raspberries, however, you can use any kind of nuts you like.
