I like to let the honey mustard flavors meld together in the fridge for at least 30 minutes before serving. This recipe makes about 1 cup of honey mustard sauce, and you can easily double or triple it to make larger batches.

Storage

Homemade honey mustard can be kept in an airtight container or mason jar in the refrigerator for 2-3 weeks.

I do not recommend freezing homemade honey mustard sauce.

Variations

I like to use Grey Poupon Dijon mustard, but you can also use yellow mustard if you prefer.

Here are some other variations that you might like:

  • Hot honey mustard: add a little bit of cayenne pepper or sweet chili sauce. (Spicy honey mustard is a must for those who like a little kick!)
  • Cajun honey mustard: add 1 tablespoon of your favorite Cajun seasoning mix.
  • Roasted garlic honey mustard: add 3 cloves of roasted garlic to the food processor and blend with the remaining ingredients.
  • Smoky honey mustard sauce: smoked paprika adds a little smokiness.

Ways to Use

This honey mustard can also be the base for many other great recipes. I find myself using it for all kinds of different recipes when we get into a mealtime rut. Next time, try one of these:

  • Honey mustard butter: combine 8 ounces of softened butter with 2 tablespoons of honey mustard. Refrigerate in an airtight container. (If you like our cowboy butter, you’ll love this!)
  • Honey mustard dressing: combine 1/2 cup of honey mustard with 3-4 tablespoons of apple cider vinegar, and 1 tablespoon of lemon juice or lime juice, then drizzle in 1/4 cup of olive oil while whisking to emulsify. Refrigerate in an airtight container. (Honey mustard salad dressing is always a big hit on this cobb salad.)
  • Honey mustard veggie dip: add equal parts of honey mustard sauce and mayonnaise and mix to combine. Serve with your favorite veggies like cucumbers, red bell peppers, and carrots.
  • Honey mustard marinade: add 2 teaspoons apple cider vinegar, 1/2 teaspoon garlic powder, and 1 tablespoon of olive oil, plus add black pepper to taste. This adds amazing flavor to grilled chicken breasts.

Serving Suggestions

This is one of the most versatile sauces! There are so many amazing ways to enjoy it. It’s definitely not just for French fries and chicken tenders!

You’ll love this as a honey mustard pretzel dip recipe. (Try them with our no-fuss pretzel bites or ham and cheese puff pastries).

Pop it into your child’s lunchbox (or yours!!) to enjoy with sandwich kabobs. It’s a great way to get kids to eat their veggies, too.

It’s a great dipping sauce for so many snacks — like fries and tater tots, onion ringsand golden brown chicken fingers —and it’s really yummy on burgers and sandwiches, too.

This delicious recipe is also great on pieces of chicken or pork chops.

You can use this honey mustard to make your favorite potato salad or chicken salad, instead of using regular mayo for extra flavor.
