Packing healthy lunches can sometimes be the most challenging part of my day. I loathe trying to find healthy options that I know the kids will eat. When I have the time in the morning – or sometimes the night before – I try to find cute ways to put together creative lunches. This is my favorite fun lunch idea for my daughter!

These ham and cheese kabobs include tomatoes, pickles, and lettuce, with pieces of pretzel bread. I use stainless steel vegetable cutters to cut the ham and cheese into flower shapes.

Because I didn’t want to send my young children to school with sharp wooden skewers, I used 6-inch lollipop sticks instead. This makes a short kabob that fits well into a container or sandwich bag. It’s perfect for lunch boxes! You can make these kabobs with a variety of items to suit your child’s tastes.

Here’s what you’ll need to make your own sandwich kebabs. I love how easy it is to customize these for school lunches based on your child’s preferences.

  • lunch meat – ham, turkey, or roast beef
  • cheese – I like Colby jack, but you can also use sharp cheddar or swiss cheese
  • lettuce – we use romaine but iceberg works great also
  • grape or cherry tomatoes – these are less messy than sliced tomatoes
  • pretzel rolls, pita bread, whole wheat bread, etc
  • pickles or olives

The best part is that you can deconstruct your child’s favorite sandwich to make these easily. Try BLT or club sandwich kabobs. The options are nearly endless!

Instructions

  1. Use your mini cookie cutters to cut the meat and cheese into shapes. Cheese cubes and folded slices of meat work, too.
  2. Push your lollipop stick through the meat, cheese, and vegetables.
  3. Pack in a sealed container.
