Ingredients

This is meant to be a brief overview of this easy Chicken Fajita Seasoning recipe. For step-by-step instructions and a full printable recipe card with ingredients, please scroll down to the teal box below.

  • Chili Powder: Adds a nice kick with a bit of smokiness.
  • Paprika: A sweet, smoky touch that rounds out the heat from the chili powder. You can use regular or smoked paprika, whichever suits your tastes.
  • Ground Cumin: Earthy and warm, cumin brings a deep richness that’s essential to this seasoning. In my opinion, this is what gives fajita seasoning its signature flavor.
  • Dried Oregano: For a fresh, zesty flavor to balance the other spices.
  • Onion Powder: Savory and slightly sweet, onion powder adds a layer of richness.
  • Garlic Powder: Adds savory goodness that makes everything taste better. (You’d be hard-pressed to find one of my seasoning blends that doesn’t include garlic powder!)
  • Salt: You may be tempted to leave this out, but don’t. The salt really does enhance the other flavors.

Variations:

  • Add More Chili Powder: If you prefer a spicier flavor, add a bit more chili powder.
  • Make it Spicier: Want to kick things up even more? Throw in a pinch of cayenne pepper.
  • Dried Cilantro: If you’re a fan of cilantro, add a teaspoon of dried cilantro to the mix for a fresh, citrusy undertone.
  • Dried Lime Zest: A little bit of dried lime zest (about 1 teaspoon) will brighten up the flavors.

Ang’s Recipe Tips

  • Measure, Don’t Guess. It’s tempting to sprinkle and estimate your seasonings and spices, but a little goes a long way with dried seasonings! Start with the recommended amounts, and then adjust to your taste. You can always add more, but you can’t take it out.
  • Get the kids involved! They can help measure and mix, and they’ll love shaking up their own custom seasoning blend. It’s a fun way to make mealtime together even more special.
  • Store ‘Em Right. Keep your dried seasonings in a cool, dark and dry place (hello, pantry!). Airtight containers are your best friend—this keeps them fresh and ready to sprinkle whenever you need them. • Bring the Freshness. When it’s time to make your chicken fajitas, make it a little more special by using some fresh herbs and lime juice just before serving.

How to Use Fajita Seasoning

For every pound of meat (or veggies), use 1 tablespoon of your homemade fajita seasoning. It’s as easy as that! Rub it on your chicken, beef, shrimp, or even tofu, and get ready for some mouthwatering fajitas. You can also sprinkle it on veggies or use it in sauces and dips for extra flavor!

Ways to Use Fajita Seasoning:

  • Fajitas: Obviously! Toss your seasoned meat with sautéed peppers and onions for classic chicken fajitas.
  • Tacos: Perfect for taco night.
  • Grilled Meat: Use it as a rub for grilled chicken, steak, or shrimp.
  • Roasted Veggies: Season up some bell peppers, zucchini, and sweet potatoes for a tasty veggie side.
  • Soups & Stews: Add a pinch for a little kick in your soups or chili.
  • Omelets & Scrambles: Bring fajita flavor to breakfast by mixing it into your eggs!
