Our Buffalo Chicken Dip Recipe is a big reader favorite here – in fact, it makes our top ten list almost every year since 2014! Since it’s a tried and true winner, I start with this mixture to make the filling for this crescent ring appetizer:

Crescent Roll Buffalo Chicken Ring Ingredients

  • store-bought crescent roll dough
  • chicken breasts OR canned white meat chicken
  • buffalo wing sauce
  • cream cheese
  • blue cheese dressing
  • shredded Monterrey jack or Colby jack cheese
  • shredded mozzarella cheese
  • baby carrots and celery for serving

How to Make a Buffalo Chicken Crescent Ring

  1. In a medium-large bowl, break up the drained chicken meat OR shred your cooked chicken.
  2. In a small bowl, whip the softened cream cheese with the hand mixer until smooth, then add it to the chicken and mix by hand until combined.
  3. Then, stir in the blue cheese dressing, buffalo wing sauce, and shredded Monterrey jack or Colby jack and mozzarella cheese.
  4. Separate the crescent roll dough into 16 triangles.
  5. Arrange your triangles into a “sun” shape onto an ungreased, unlined cookie sheet.
  6. Spoon your dip around the dough ring.
  7. Gently bring each point up and over the filling and tuck under the middle.
  8. Bake for 20 – 25 minutes at 375.
  9. Cool for a few minutes before serving.
  10. Serve with a side of carrots and celery.

Recipe Variations

  • This recipe can be made with any cooked chicken or even turkey meat you might have leftover.
  • If you like your buffalo chicken really spicy, taste the filling mixture and adjust by adding more hot sauce or cayenne pepper to taste.
  • Make individual appetizers with puff pastry instead to make Buffalo Chicken pockets, similar to these Puffy Pastry Chicken Pockets.
  • Use wonton wrappers and a mini cupcake pan to make bite-size buffalo chicken wonton cups.

Equipment

  • Large Mixing Bowl
  • Liquid Measuring Cup
  • Spoonula
  • Baking Sheet

Ingredients

For the Dip:

  • 8 oz. cream cheese softened
  • 1/2 cup blue cheese dressing
  • 1/2 cup buffalo wing sauce we used Frank’s Redhot Buffalo Wing Sauce
  • 1/2 cup shredded Monterrey jack or Colby jack cheese
  • 2 12.5 oz cans Swanson’s White Premium Chunk Chicken Breast in Water, drained
  • 1/2 cup shredded mozzarella cheese

For the Ring:

  • 2 tubes refrigerated crescent roll dough

Instructions

For the Dip:

  • In a medium-large oven safe bowl, break up the drained chicken meat.
  • In a small bowl, whip the softened cream cheese with the hand mixer until smooth, then add it to the chicken and mix by hand until combined.
  • Then, stir in the blue cheese dressing, hot sauce, and shredded Monterrey jack or Colby jack cheese.
  • Top with the shredded mozzarella cheese. Cover with aluminum foil and store in the fridge until ready to serve.

For the Ring:

  • Open and unroll your crescent roll dough. Then separate the dough into 16 triangles. The dough is perforated so it should be easy to separate but if not you can use a knife along the perforated lines.
  • Arrange your triangles into a “sun” shape onto an ungreased, unlined cookie sheet. Leave a 5 inch open space in the middle. Your triangles will need to overlap, and will probably hang off of the cookie sheet at first. That is OK!
  • Spoon your dip around the dough ring, near the middle. Leave the triangle tips free of filling.
  • Once you’ve formed a circle of dip inside your dough ring, gently bring each point up and over the filling and tuck under the middle. Continue around your ring until all of the triangles have been folded toward the center. You will still see your dip mixture peeking out.
  • Bake for 20 – 25 minutes at 375. Baking time may vary slightly. Make sure the dough is nice and golden brown and baked through.
  • Cool for a 10 minutes before slicing and serving.
