I absolutely love using puff pastry to make simple, but delicious (and impressive) recipes for holidays and get-togethers.

Puff pastry twists are a great way to get the kids in the kitchen, too. Let them help spread the Nutella or twist the pieces together.

This recipe couldn’t be easier. And, once you’ve mastered this technique, you can use different spreads for filling. Try apple butter, chocolate peanut butter spread, or even jam.

🧂 Ingredients

This is meant to be a brief overview of this great recipe. For step-by-step instructions and a full printable recipe card with ingredients, please scroll down to the teal box below.

  • Nutella chocolate hazelnut spread
  • puff pastry – I like to use refrigerated puff pastry so I don’t have to wait for it to thaw.
  • powdered sugar (optional)

For perfectly golden brown puff pastry, whisk together one egg and 1 tablespoon of water to make an egg wash. Brush the mixture over the twists before baking.

Recipe variations: sprinkle chopped hazelnuts on top of the chocolate hazelnut spread before topping with the second piece of puff pastry.

🔪 Instructions

  1. Unroll the first piece of puff pastry dough and gently spread the Nutella evenly on top.
  2. Cover with a second piece of dough.
  3. Cut in half lengthwise, then cut into 1-inch slices.
  4. Twist each slice and place on a lined baking sheet.
  5. Bake at 400°F for 15-20 minutes until golden brown.

⭐Ang’s Recipe Tips

✔️ Work with just one sheet of puff pastry at a time.

✔️ Chilling the dough for 15 minutes before baking will result in the flakest twists.

🍲 Storage

To Store: Leftover Puff Pastry Nutella Twists should be stored in an airtight container in the fridge. (These are my favorite airtight containers.)

To Reheat: Microwave one or two twists in 30 second intervals until heated throughout.

✏️ Make Ahead

Twists can be assembled up to one day ahead of time. Store on a baking sheet covered with plastic wrap or aluminum foil.

For parties, I like to make them in the morning, and then bake them just as guests are arriving so they’re still warm.

🍴 Serving Suggestions

For dessert, serve warm or room temperature with powdered sugar on top. They’re also absolutely divine with whipped cream or vanilla ice cream.

These puff pastry twists are fantastic for breakfast or brunch. I like to serve them alongside my holiday ham and egg muffins for brunch.

You can even add these twisted puff pastry treats to your hot chocolate charcuterie board.
