Our Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub starts with Organic Virgin Coconut Oil. I'm a big fan of this homemade scrub because it's an excellent way to keep soft skin, especially in the winter months!
This Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub is perfect for exfoliating dry winter skin, and yes, it is good enough to eat. In fact, without the body wash, it is safe to eat! The body wash gives this scrub a cleaning agent, but is optional.
Making your own sugar scrub is super easy and it makes a great gift for family and friends during the holiday season. Similar to our DIY Vanilla Brown Sugar Scrub, this simple scrub only uses a few simple ingredients.

💭 Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some questions (and answers!) readers often ask about our homemade body scrub.
Salt scrubs are perfect for exfoliating dry skin to remove dead skin cells, but sugar body scrubs are just as good, and are often more gentle on the skin.
Homemade coconut oil sugar scrubs should be stored in an airtight container. Personally, I love small mason jars.
This good stuff will last a long time - the shelf life is about 3 months if kept sealed between uses.
Surprisingly, ground cinnamon has anti-fungal, antioxidant and antibacterial properties! It can help with blemishes and acne.
However, those with sensitive skin should avoid ground cinnamon as it may cause skin irritation.
Coconut oil is excellent at hydrating your skin - it's my go to in winter time dry skin, especially my hands and elbows.
Organic, unrefined coconut oil is the best kind of coconut oil to use for your skin to get all the natural benefits!
How to Use Your Sugar Scrub
Wet your skin with warm water. Apply a small about of the DIY scrub to your skin and massage in a circular motion. Rinse. That's it!
I do not recommend using this on sensitive skin or on your face.
📖 Variations
We recommend that you try our diy sugar scrub recipe for the first time just as it is written for the best results, because that is how the recipe has been tested.
However, the next time you make it, you might consider one of these different ways of making this:
- Add a couple of drops of your favorite essential oils, however do your research first as some essential oils are not good for direct skin contact.
- Adding a little citrus zest from oranges or lemons is a great idea.
Make a DIY Beauty Gift Basket
This Coconut Oil Sugar Scrub makes a great addition to any beauty gift basket. I like to package them in smaller 4oz jars (this 'recipe' will make two 4oz jars). Then you can make some of these other great DIY beauty products to create a beautiful gift basket:

Is it 1 cup coconut oil? I’m seeing just “1 cup” in the ingredient list. Is the coconut oil to be melted or left in solid state?
Ang Paris says
Hi there! Yes I've corrected the "recipe" - so sorry! Keep it in the solid state.

The chances of you replying to my comment after so much time are low but I wanted to ask how long the scrub lasts. Will it last for atleast 2 months? I loved this "recipe" and wanted to make this and gift it to my bestfriend who's a skincare fanatic. Love this!
Ang Paris says
Hello there! This will last for 2-3 months when properly sealed. If it is closed up for awhile, you may need to mix it up before using. Enjoy!
