So far this October we’ve been enjoying all things mummy-related. Seems silly, but I’m drawn to activities and foods that involve mummy items. So our Halloween Mummy Bowling was the perfect thing to create for the kiddos. What’s even better, it’s super simple to make. You only need a few basic items and you’re ready to put the kids to work, and create some mummy bowling pins.

The bowling pins I used are only 13.5″ tall, so they are fairly small in comparison to regular pin, making it nice when you’re wrapping them up – mummy style. I still used quite a few rolls of cotton gauze, even with small bowling pins. I’d say to be safe purchase extra rolls so you don’t run out half way through wrapping your pins. I bought at least 5 rolls. It helps if you have some kind of dollar store, that’s where I found the cotton gauze used.

Working with the gauze is super flexible and very forgivable, which makes this a great activity to let the kids help with, especially if you like the extra hands-on help.

1. Roll out a small piece of gauze and place your bowling pin on top of the gauze. Start wrapping the gauze tightly around your bowling pin, starting from the bottom, working your way to the top. It just takes a few wraps around the bowling pin to completely cover the pin, and get the oh-so wrapped up look.
2. Once you have fully wrapped the bowling pin, dab a small amount of glue onto the gauze and press firmly into place. This should hold your gauze in place. I used tacky glue, which I’d recommend because it holds really well, especially once the kids start playing and knocking these adorable pins down.
3. Next you can apply your googly eyes using a small amount of tacky glue again. Press each eye firmly in place and let dry. Leave the mummies to air-dry for a few before moving on to the next step.
4. Once the glue has dried, add some fun and festive Halloween ribbon around the mummy neck.

I think that the ribbon adds a little extra decoration to an already adorable mummy bowling pin. I used an assortment of small ribbons I had on hand. You can also find ribbons on sale right now with Halloween almost knocking on our door. Tie a nice bow using your ribbon and you’re all set. Who knew mummies could be so cute, right? 

The kids will be ready to play, I know mine were!

Next, you’re ready to let the kids out and enjoy some ghoulish mummy bowling. Find the perfect spot at your house and watch the kids have a blast! I let the kids set the pins up however they liked, which they didn’t seem to mind. They actually enjoyed watching the pins fall and placing them back in a row, over and over again.

This is a great game for a rainy day, or ideal for a Halloween party at school. Either way, this game is a big hit with the kids!
