While honey or maple syrup are standard in many ham recipes, I use brown sugar instead. I especially love pairing brown sugar with mustard, but the ground spices are the secret.

Cumin, coriander, and allspice add so much depth of flavor, and I’m pretty sure this is the best ham recipe I’ve ever eaten.

  • 6 pounds spiral sliced ham
  • 1 cup light brown sugar packed
  • 1/2 cup orange juice fresh squeezed
  • 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard
  • 1 tablespoon cornstarch

Instructions

  • Place the unwrapped ham with the flat side down into your crockpot.
    6 pounds spiral sliced ham
  • In a medium bowl, mix the brown sugar, juice, mustard cornstarch, and seasonings for the glaze.
    1 cup light brown sugar, 1/2 cup orange juice, 2 tablespoons Dijon mustard, ½ tablespoon ground cumin, ½ tablespoon ground coriander, 1 teaspoon ground allspice, 1/2 teaspoon black pepper, 2 teaspoons kosher salt, 1 tablespoon cornstarch
  • After that, rub half the glaze over the surface of the ham. Cover and cook on LOW for 4-5 hours or until the internal temperature reaches 140 degrees F.
  • If you like, you can occasionally base the ham with the liquid from the bottom of the crockpot.
  • Serve the ham with the leftover glaze liquid on the side.
