When I was working on our guest bathroom makeover, I knew I wanted to have some art in there that was handmade. I could have easily printed some fun and cute printables, but I wanted a personal touch in the decor.

Since I'm nowhere near artistic with a paint brush in hand, I elicited the help of my 20 month old daughter, instead! Not only did she absolutely love to paint, but now she can see her finished diy watercolor bathroom art every time she takes a bath!

    Materials

Making your own is incredibly easy and you only need a few items.

    • Watercolor paper
    • A set of watercolor paints & paintbrush
    • 1 Package foam sticker letters
    • Frame

    Instructions

To create this fun art, you could have your kiddos help, or you can do it solo. Whichever you prefer!

First, I settled on what saying I wanted on my painting. I decided on, "so fresh and so clean clean," so I started by penciling where my letters would go before I stuck them on the watercolor paper. Once I had a rough idea of how I wanted it all to look, I carefully stuck on each foam letter. I used foam because it's thicker and easier to pull off after everything is dry.

Then, I strapped my little one in her highchair, gave her paints and a paintbrush, and she went at it! It was SO much fun seeing her get excited and start painting. I directed her slightly by really only allowing her to use a few colors so they'd match our bathroom's color scheme. She didn't seem to mind! You can easily use any colors that match your decor, too.

I sat back and watched her go to town. She mostly enjoyed playing in the water cup, but she did manage to get some paint on the paper. 😉

She had some trouble getting around each letter closely, so I helped her get in the nooks and crannies. I also put some paint inside of the letters since she wasn't coordinated enough yet to do so. Make sure you get around the letter really well, or when you pull them off, you won't be able to tell what the letter looks like!

After she finished and I helped her make sure there was no white showing, we let it dry for several hours. When I was sure it was completely dry, I carefully started to peel off each letter.

I was so thrilled with how well the stickers worked, and how easy they were to pull off!

I spray painted an old frame white, trimmed the art as necessary to fit, and framed the print. I even had my little one paint another little watercolor with just paint to match the color scheme, and I framed that, too!

I love having art that is personal in this space. My daughter especially loves it. After each bath time, she makes sure to remind us, "I painted it!" as she points to the art. She's so proud of it!

Where did you purchase your alphabet letters? I really like the font and am having a hard time finding it online.

We found them at our local craft store... I've seen them at Walmart as well.
