Make this fun Bird Seed Wreath with the kids this Valentine’s Day.
My children love to watch the birds that flit around on our little porch. This year, we decided to make a little Valentine treat for them – a bird seed wreath. It’s very simple to do, and fun for the kids, too.
Sure, it’s a little messy, but tell me a project with an almost-2 and almost-5 year olds that isn’t!
I found the instructions at The Mother Huddle, I’m sure you’ll find this tutorial as easy as we did. In fact, the hardest thing about this was waiting for it to dry and set up. I found that putting it out of sight was the best way to get it out of mind, as the old adage goes.
Bird Seed Wreath Tutorial
Materials:
4 cups bird seed feed
3/4 cup all purpose flour
1/2 cup warm water
3 T. corn syrup
1 package of plain gelatin
cooking spray
bundt pan
Directions:
Dissolve the gelatin in the water, then whisk in the corn syrup and flour until you have a paste. Add the bird seed and mix well.
Spray the bundt pan really well. Now, this next part is especially fun for the little ones – scoop the mixture into the pan and gently press down to make it as even as possible.
Set the pan aside for at least 24 hours to let it set up. Then turn it out onto a plate or paper towel and let it dry – at least another 24 hours.
Then I tied a simple bow and hung the ribbon it up for our feathered friends.
