Wooden house décor is all the rage right now, and this decorative wooden house DIY project will bring them home to you in no time.

Little wooden house decor seems to be popping up everywhere these days. I’ve even seen them at Dollar Tree! But did you know that you can make them at home? My Decorative Wooden Houses DIY Project is a simple, on-trend project you can put together quickly and adapt to any season!

I got my embroidered letters from my local Michael’s in the ‘wearables’ section. I love these little things because they are so versatile! Since they are peel and stick, you can use them on a variety of home décor projects, in addition to sewing projects. You could grab the letters H-O-M-E and put them on the backside of the houses, which gives you twice the decorating options!

Decorative Wooden Houses Tutorial

This craft will take about 30 minutes to complete, plus drying time.

Materials

  • 3″ white embroidered letters, “Varsity Style”
  • 4 wooden houses
  • black and white acrylic craft paint
  • silver HVAC duct sealing tape OR silver duct tape
  • red and white gingham ribbon
  • corrugated cardboard – from the recycle bin
  • glue gun and glue sticks, ruler, craft knife, scissors, pencil, and paint brush

How to Make Little Wooden Houses

STEP 1: Gather all supplies.  Paint each of the four wooden house shapes with a base coat of white acrylic craft paint, set aside to dry.  Apply a second coat, if necessary.

STEP 3: Once the acrylic craft paint is dry, peel liner paper from the back of the embroidered letters spelling LOVE and apply one letter to each of the wooden houses.

STEP 4: To create a roof, measure the width and the pitch of the wooden houses, then cut four chipboard rectangles 3/4″ by 5″.

Cover each piece with the HVAC foil tape folding over all edges.  Silver Duck brand tape would work as well.

STEP 5: Carefully bend each roof piece at the halfway mark and attach it to the top of the wooden houses with a glue gun and glue sticks.

STEP 6: Tie the red and white gingham ribbon into a bow and glue it to the center of the “O” in LOVE.

Where to find Wooden House Décor

I got my wooden houses and letters from Michael’s, but you can make your own DIY Scrap Wooden Houses with this tutorial from Garrison Street Design Studio. I’ve also seen that Dollar Tree has wooden houses, which have a slightly different shape but can be used in so many awesome ways.
