DIY Marble Coasters Using Sharpies

These DIY Marble Coasters are super simple to make and are a lovely DIY gift this Spring for teacher appreciation or Mother’s Day! Of course, they would also be great as gifts for grandparents and Dad’s too! (Stocking stuffers, anyone?!)

I love DIY gifts! I think it’s such a wonderful way to show someone you care about them. These DIY Marble Coasters area a project I made with my kids as a Mother’s Day gift for my mother. They loved creating these knowing that Grammy would enjoy their handiwork! 

The age of your children will determine how much they can participate in this protect. For my kids, I handled the glue and spray, but they did pretty much the rest.  

You’ll definitely want to supervise your children, of course, but even young children can help since coloring skills don’t matter for this project.

DIY Marble Coasters Using Sharpies

Materials needed to make the marble coasters, including coaster blanks, rubbing alcohol, and Sharpies.

Materials

Follow this simple tutorial for making DIY Marble Coasters Using Sharpies:

  • rubbing alcohol
  • Sharpie markers
  • scissors
  • felt
  • ceramic tiles
  • Fixitif spray
  • fabric glue
  • dropper

Instructions

Cut the felt to size and glue onto the back side of the ceramic tile.

Cutting felt to size to fit on the backs of the marble coasters.

Color the ceramic tiles with the Sharpie markers, leaving some white space. Use your imagination here, but remember some colors aren’t as pretty as others when they bleed together.

Pour a little of the rubbing alcohol into a small dish. Using the dropper, add a little at a time to the tiles.  Allow to set in a well ventilated area until completely dry.  Spray with Fixitif to help set everything.
