Elephant Cake Pops are an adorable treat for baby showers and kid's parties. They're easier to make than you think!

Hi everyone! Karyn from Pint Sized Baker, back again with another amazing Cake Pop Tutorial! Today, I've got some cute little Elephant Cake Pops that are perfect for a baby shower or birthday party. These little guys are so cute and you will be pleased to see how easy they are to make. Trust me - you can do this.
To make these Elephant Cake Pops, you will need a few supplies to start -

    • Cake and frosting - I used ¼ of a baked 9x13 cake and added 1 - 2 tablespoons of canned frosting to it.
    • Mini dehydrated marshmallows for the feet
    • 4 parts White candy melts and 1 part black candy melts to make a pale grey color
    • Blue Candy Wafers
    • Mini Heart Sprinkles
    • Lollipop sticks
    • Black Edible Pen

Step by step instructions on how to make Elephant Cake Pops. These little guys can be whipped up quickly and easily. Give them a try! These are for a baby boy's shower, so I baked my cake then divided the batter into two 8" round pans. I colored one pan blue using the Wilton Color Right system - 5 drops blue and one drop black. They turned out perfectly. I love this color!

To make the cake balls, mix the cake and frosting together in a stand up mixer or in a food processor. Let the machine do all the work and work it into a play-doh  like consistency. Check out my YouTube video on making the dough. Use a 1 tablespoon cookie scoop to measure out the dough. I got 12 cake balls from ¼ of a cake. Don't make them too big. 1 tablespoon is the perfect size. Smoosh and roll the dough smooth and place them into the fridge to chill out while you prepare the rest of the accessories.

You'll want two blue candy wafers for each pop - those are the ears. You'll also want to cut a wafer to make the trunk. I used used a large piping tip to cut a crescent shapes into the wafer. I got two trunks per wafer. Then we will use the mini dehydrated marshmallows for the feet and give each little elephant a little heart for their trunks. Set all them aside and ready to go. It's a good idea to have needle nose tweezers to help position the candy.

Melt the white and black candy melts and slowly mix together. You'll want a light grey color, it will dry darker in my experience. Remove the cake balls from the fridge and gather up your lollipop sticks.

Dip a stick into the melted candy and insert it into the cake ball. Attach the mini marshmallow to the bottom to make the legs using the candy as the glue. It may help to use tweezers (I use a needle nose one like this) to handle the small candies. Then dip the candy crescent in the grey candy and push it into the cake ball to make a trunk. It'll look a little odd, but it all works out. If you crack your cake ball, just smooth some melted candy over the crack and leave it to harden.

Once all the balls are sticked and prepped, dip the cake pop into the grey candy and cover it completely. Tap off the excess off the back of the elephant's behind. Let a little bit dangle off a for a count of three and then stand it up. That will create a little tail on the elephant.  Quickly press the blue wafers to make the ears and add the little heart to the tip of the trunk. Stand up the cake pop to dry.

Complete all of the elephants and then clean up your area. Get a black edible marker, draw on the eyes and you're done!

Elephant Cake Pops are an adorable treat for baby showers and kid's parties. They're easier to make than you think!

See? That wasn't too hard was it??

Want to change up a few things?? I get it, you want a challenge. In place of the candy wafer trunk, you can use a banana runt candy, or fashion one out of a tootsie roll. Roll out some fondant and make some ears that hug the body a bit more.

Where do you get mini dehydrated marshmallows? Are these different than regular mini marshmallows?

I will be making these but with pink for my cousins baby shower, I am a little concerned that the wafers will slide ride down the sides of the pops, did you see this as a problem? Thinking I may add them later once the pops have hardened a bit more.

We didn't have a problem with that, we just held them in place for a few extra seconds until they started to set. Good luck! 🙂

How far ahead can these be made? Can they be frozen? (the elephant cake pops)

You can freeze the cake pops once dipped and set, but I wouldn't freeze them with the decorations as they're more likely to fall off.

The few times I've made cake pops I've had trouble getting the candy melts to a liquid consistency that I could dip the cake pops in without them either falling off the stick or it not sticking to the cake pop. Too much heat seems to harden the candy melts. Any tips or suggestions?

Read over the instructions on the package for your candy melts - they vary by brand. Since microwaves can vary as well, I often will do less time than recommended to make sure it doesn't seize up. You can always add more time. Good luck!

Eee, these are so cute! Can someone find a cuter, rounder animal better suited to being cake pops? Didn't think so. Amazing.
