Equipment

  • Large pot
  • Spoon

Ingredients

  • 1 Cup Flour
  • ¼ Cup Salt
  • 1 Tsp. Cream of Tartar
  • ½ Tsp. Apple Pie Spice
  • 1 Tsp. Cinnamon
  • ½ Tbsp. Vegetable Oil
  • 1 Cup Water
  • Red Food Coloring
  • Green Food Coloring

Instructions

  • Place a large pot on the stove and mix all the dry ingredients together.
  • Now add in your vegetable oil, water, and food coloring, start stirring. If you want a really deep color, add at least 1Tsp of food coloring. If you don't see a dark enough color, just keep adding drops until you achieve the perfect shade.
  • Continue stirring your ingredients over low/medium heat until the dough begins to pull away from the pot and also begins to stick together. I'd say it's close to 5 minutes of stirring.
  • Once you reach the right consistency, turn off the heat, place your dough onto wax paper or a cookie sheet and let cool for a few minutes, then knead.
  • If the play dough is too sticky after it cools, just add a little bit of flour and knead a little longer. This will help the consistency and make a less sticky dough.

Notes

We made 2 different batches. The first was using green food coloring to create green apples. The next batch we made we used the red food coloring to create our dramatic red apple color.
