Homemade chocolate-covered strawberries are so much better than the ones you order online. Because they are best enjoyed the day you make them (or very, very soon after), making your own chocolate-dipped strawberries means you'll have a treat that is super fresh.
These are so much fun for holidays and parties. You can make them with your favorite sprinkles or drizzle with dark or milk chocolate. No matter what, this easy dessert is certain to disappear!
You only need a few simple ingredients to make these. Start with really good quality chocolate. I like using Ghirardelli brand personally. This will make a big difference in how your strawberries taste. Better chocolate means better chocolate-covered strawberries!
⭐ Tips
Here are a few helpful tips for making the best white chocolate strawberries.
✔️Have everything ready to go before you melt the chocolate.
✔️Use fresh ripe strawberries, making sure that they don't have any bruises or soft spots.
✔️Be sure the strawberries are completely dry before dipping or the chocolate will not stick to them.
✔️Chocolate becomes hard fast, so work quickly!
✔️If the chocolate seizes up the best thing to do is start over.
✔️ Allow the chocolate to completely set before you attempt to move the strawberries, at least 10 minutes.
Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some questions (and answers!) readers often ask about the best way to dip strawberries in delicious chocolate!
It's easier than you might think! Place a glass bowl on top of a simmering (not boiling!) pot of water, and pop your chocolate in the glass bowl. The steam from the pan below will gently melt your chocolate and make sure it doesn't burn. Just stir occasionally as it melts!
A double boiler will melt the chocolate the most evenly and most often you don't have to worry about it seizing up like you might if you use the microwave. The downside is that it takes a little bit longer.
Add a very small amount of fat like butter, coconut oil, or vegetable oil to the chocolate mixture. You can always add more so start with just a tiny bit.
Dark choc is better for you because it has more antioxidants, but as always, everything in moderation!
We recommend you make and eat the strawberries within the same day, but if you must store them, they are best stored in the refrigerator in a paper towel lined air-tight container for 24 hours.
Be sure your strawberries are completely dry and room temperature before dipping and you shouldn't have any issues!

- Once the chocolate is melted prepare your supplies in an assembly line -strawberries, melted chocolate, and baking sheet.
- Holding a strawberry by the leaves, dip it into the melted white chocolate.
- After dipping carefully place each strawberry on the lined baking sheet about 2 inches apart. Allow 10 minutes or so for the chocolate to harden.

You can use this same method for other fresh fruits such as orange segments, slices or pear, apple, banana and even mango. Grapes, kiwi and cherries are delicious with chocolate also.

⏲️ Storage
Chocolate covered strawberries are best enjoyed the same day they are made. They can be stored on the countertop if the temperature isn't too hot in your kitchen.
Alternatively, store them in the refrigerator with paper towels or parchment underneath in a single layer. Do not stack them on top of one another.
I do not recommend freezing these as the strawberries will become mushy as they thaw and the chocolate may fall off.
📖 Variations
Next time you make our chocolate strawberries, you might consider one of these different ways of making this great recipe.
- Add a couple of drops of food coloring to the melted white chocolate. Pink is ideal for Valentine's Day and Mother's Day, of course. However, chocolate dipped strawberries are wonderful for any kind of holiday and special occasion. For example, tint your chocolate to match the theme for bridal showers, birthdays, baby showers, graduation parties, etc.
- Instead of using white, milk or dark chocolate or semi-sweet chocolate, purchase colored chocolate candy melts. These are a bit easier to work with, however I find that the candy coating isn't the same as delicious chocolate.
- Add a semisweet chocolate or white chocolate drizzle, sprinkles or even a little bit of edible glitter to your strawberries.
- If you are not a fan of white chocolate, use your favorite chocolate instead.
