I can’t believe it’s already 2015 – what a whirlwind 2014 was! In looking back, I was a little surprised at the Top 10 DIY Posts of 2014. Some were expected, like the awesome Scrap Wood Photo Blocks from contributor Katie at View From the Fridge, and others were a surprise, like the DIY Minnie Mouse Ears that were actually from 2013. These DIY Make Up Remover Pads are so easy to make, and cost just pennies! I keep a jar next to my bed for those nights when I’m super tired and forget to take off my makeup in the bathroom. Plus, they make a great gift. Put them together in a basket with a homemade scrub and bath salts and you have a pretty little gift for teachers, Mother’s Day, or your BFF’s birthday!
As I formed my contributor team earlier this year, I was so thrilled to have Katie at View From the Fridge join me. Her talent at crafting and DIY projects is enviable for sure. She started with a bang when she posted these Scrap Wood Photo Blocks. They’re they perfect versatile photo gift since you can easily swap out photos. Of course, they make an awesome gift, too.
My daughter Olivia is obsessed with Frozen (like every other little girl!) When I emailed Katie to make an Elsa cape for my little one, she created this beautiful project, and documented it for her blog post. To this day, my daughter still adores this cape. It’s the perfect addition to her dress up collection. It’s no surprise that this Elsa Cape Tutorial made the top 10 list for 2014.
Katie was really on a roll this year, and you guys love her projects! These Patriotic DIY Paper Flowers were a fan favorite right away. The flowers are gorgeous addition to any 4th of July mantle. (You can find the beautiful and Festive Summer Mason Jar Vases Tutorial here.)
OK, so you guys really, really LOVE Katie – this DIY Oven Mitt – Anthropologie Style took the 5th spot on the Top 10 DIY Posts of 2014. She’s the undisputed queen of DIY!
My DIY Lotion Bars are a carry over from 2013, but readers love these so much that they’ve earned a spot on the Top 10 DIY Posts of 2014. These are super simple and like many of the idea items on this list, make a great gift for the holidays, birthdays and more. I was super excited to add Heather from Krafts and Kiddos to my contributor team, she has some pretty awesome ideas when it comes to keeping the kiddos entertained and happy. This Apple Pie Scented Play Dough was an instant favorite for readers. The simple recipe could be easily adapted for other seasons and holidays – like orange extract and ground cloves for Christmastime, or leave the seasonings as is and change the food coloring to orange for pumpkin spice play dough.
I made more than a dozen of these DIY Minnie Mouse Ears for Olivia’s 2nd birthday in 2013. This post has stood the test of time to make it to the 8th spot on Top 10 DIY Posts of 2014. You can find more ideas for a Minnie Mouse themed birthday party from recipes to crafts here.
Mandee joined the contributor team late in 2014 after she caught my eye with this Lovely Floral Garland she added to my weekly link party (Cook it! Craft it! Share it!). She made a big splash with these Editable Fall Place Cards. These are great for any Fall party, and especially Thanksgiving. She’s got tons of great tutorials here. I’m looking forward to seeing more of Mandee’s beautiful printables in 2015!
These Lavender Bath Salts round up the list of Top 10 DIY Posts of 2014. They’re super easy to make, inexpensive, and are a fabulous gift for friends, family and teachers. Who doesn’t love a good soak in relaxing and rejuvenating bath salts?
