I love planning buffet style meals for family get togethers and parties.  There are so many easy make ahead options so that you're not stuck cooking the whole time.

Making individual desserts is perfect for a party or buffet because you don't have to worry about slicing or serving - it's all done! We'll show you how to make cake in a jar using mini mason jars.

    ⭐ Tips

Generously spray the inside of your mini mason jars with cooking spray to help keep the cake from sticking.

Only fill each mini jar half way so that the cake has a place to go as it rises. Otherwise, you will have a big mess on your hands!

Place all the cookie jars onto a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. This makes them easier to move to and from the oven, and also will help catch any messes that might happen.

    🧂 Ingredients

    • Canola oil
    • All-purpose flour
    • Granulated sugar
    • Baking powder
    • Salt
    • Egg
    • Milk
    • Vanilla extract
    • Light-brown sugar
    • Ground cinnamon
    • Unsalted butter
    • Mini mason jars
    • Spray cooking oil

    🔪Instructions

This is meant to be a brief overview of how to make cake in a jar. For step-by-step instructions and a full printable recipe card with ingredients, please scroll down to the teal box below or Jump to Recipe.

    1. In a medium bowl, sift together 1 ½ cups flour, the granulated sugar, baking powder, and salt; set aside.
    2. In a second bowl, whisk together the egg, milk, canola oil, and vanilla.
    3. Using a rubber spatula, fold dry ingredients into egg mixture.
    4. Spray each mason jar with cooking oil. Pour batter into each jar only filling half way.
    5. In a medium bowl, combine remaining 2 ½ cups flour, brown sugar, and cinnamon.
    6. Pour melted butter over flour mixture, and toss with a rubber spatula until large crumbs form.
    7. Top each jar with crumb topping. Place all jars on a cookie sheet.
    8. Bake in preheated oven at 325-degrees F for about 20-30 minutes or until knife comes out clean.
    9. Allow to cool the jars will be very hot.

    🍴 Serving Suggestions

They're perfect for an Easter brunch or even a baby or bridal shower.  Add a pretty ribbon and send them home as favors, or serve them during the party.  Either way, guests are sure to love these little treats!
