Well, that's a little bit of a loaded question... teriyaki sauce has too much salt and sugar to be considered healthy, however, my motto is always "all things in moderation" so I don't consider it unhealthy either.
I enjoy making my own sauces because I can control what goes into them. For instance, in this homemade teriyaki sauce, I can use a little less salt or honey if I prefer.
Chicken wings have a lot of skin and fat, which are not good for you. However, since these wings are baked, they are healthier than a deep-fried version.

Honey Teriyaki Sauce
Here's how you make the flavorful sauce:
- In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, teriyaki marinade, oil, and seasonings. Divide the mixture, reserving half for baking.
- Add the chicken to a large resealable container with the other half of the liquid.
- Refrigerate 2 hours up to overnight. The longer the wings marinate, the better the flavor will be.
If you are not a fan of honey, try our sweet and spicy teriyaki sauce instead.
Baking the Wings
Here are the easy steps for making your new favorite wing recipe:
- Preheat the oven to 375-degrees.
- Remove the wings from the container and discard the remaining marinade.
- Place the wings and reserved sauce to a glass baking dish.
- Bake for 30 minutes, then turn and continue baking until the wings begin to caramelize – about another 15 minutes.
- Sprinkle with chopped chives or scallions before serving.

- Substitute brown sugar, or even maple syrup, for the honey.
- If you have it on hand, you can use 1 teaspoon of fresh ginger instead of ground ginger.
- For really crispy wings, add a baking rack on top of a baking sheet. Add the wings in a single layer on the wire rack and bake as directed.

To Store: Once the wings have cooled to room temperature, transfer the cooked leftover wings to an airtight container. Refrigerate for 3-4 days.
To Reheat: Place the wings in an oven safe dish and cover with aluminum foil. Place into a 300F oven and bake until warmed through.
