PIN FOR LATER

Honey Teriyaki Chicken Wings

Mr. Juggling Act has been patiently trying to cultivate a little Patriot’s lover in our 5-year-old son Ethan but it’s a lost cause. The same goes for game day food – if it’s not hot dogs or chicken nuggets, Ethan is not interested. Forget the Buffalo Chicken Dip or my favorite chili – Ethan won’t touch those with a ten-foot pole. {Sigh.}

Mr. Juggling Act shakes his head and shares with Olivia – who will eat just about anything.  Secretly, though, I think he is happy he doesn’t have to share too many of “his” game day snacks like these mouthwatering Honey Teriyaki Chicken Wings.

PIN THIS RECIPE!

You’re going to want to make this recipe again and again so be sure that you pin it so it’s easy for you to find later. 😊

Shopping List

If you prefer to use store-bought teriyaki sauce, no shame here! You can still follow this method, substituting the homemade sauce.

  • 3 lbs chicken wings
  • 1/2 cup honey
  • 1/3 cup Teriyaki marinade (usually made with mirin, soy sauce, and ginger)
  • 2 tablespoons vegetable oil
  • 1 tablespoon chili powder
  • 1 teaspoon granulated garlic
  • 1/2 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 1 teaspoon soy sauce
  • Salt and Pepper
  • scallions for garnish – you could also use chives

Is teriyaki sauce healthy?

Well, that’s a little bit of a loaded question… teriyaki sauce has too much salt and sugar to be considered healthy, however, my motto is always “all things in moderation” so I don’t consider it unhealthy either.

I enjoy making my own sauces because I can control what goes into them. For instance, in this teriyaki sauce, I can use a little less salt or honey if I prefer.

Are chicken wings bad for you?

Chicken wings have a lot of skin and fat, which are not good for you. However, since these wings are baked, they are healthier than a deep-fried version.

Honey Teriyaki Sauce for Chicken Wings

  1. In a small bowl, whisk together the honey, teriyaki marinade, oil, and seasonings. Divide the mixture, reserving half for baking.
  2. Add the chicken to a large resealable container with the other half of the liquid.
  3. Refrigerate 2 hours up to overnight. the longer the wings marinate, the better the flavor will be.

How to Make Baked Chicken Wings

  1. Preheat the oven to 375-degrees.
  2. Remove the wings from the container and discard the sauce.
  3. Add the wings and reserved sauce to a glass baking dish.
  4. Bake for 30 minutes, then turn and continue baking until the wings begin to caramelize – about another 15 minutes.
  5. Sprinkle with chopped chives or scallions before serving.

Chicken should always be cooked to an internal temperature of 165-degrees F according to FoodSafety.gov.

Baked Honey Teriyaki Chicken Wings Recipe

These wings aren’t spicy, though you could add a little heat by increasing the chili powder. They are sweet from the honey and the teriyaki and ginger flavors are a nice compliment to the sweetness. You’re going to love them!
