Spend the day learning about wildlife during a visit Squam Lakes Science Center in NH for good 'ole family fun!
Recently, my family had the opportunity to visit Squam Lakes Science Center, a AZA accredited facility in Holderness, NH. Our son Ethan went there last year on his second grade field trip and had a blast. As we checked in at the Welcome Center, Ethan was dubbed the official leader of our day's expedition and given the map. Our daughter Olivia was only too happy to follow her big brother down the path. The kids ran ahead of us exclaiming at the sights and sounds as they went.
Olivia was enamored with the Red Foxes in the Ecotone Exhibit. On the walls of each exhibit were a sample of fur from each animal. Olivia loved touching them all and at the end declared that the Red Fox was the softest of all.
Mr. Juggling Act's favorite exhibit was the Black Bears. One of them came right up next to the observation area and seemed to be investigating us! With two levels to watch from, this is a really fun spot along the trail.
For me, it was the Mountain Lion, something about their grace and power was just so majestic. I was somewhat mesmerized by the big cat pacing back and forth his beautiful enclosure. Many of the animals had a river running through their habitat with small falls, making for a really picturesque experience.
For Ethan, it was the playground, which I've got to admit is pretty awesome!
When you visit Squam Lakes Science Center, you'll want to pack some snacks. There's no eating on the trail, but there is a beautiful picnic area just before the trail begins where you can eat a picnic lunch or snack. It's the perfect spot to munch on some fresh veggies and a little of my homemade Creamy Dill Greek Yogurt Dip! This is such a versatile recipe because you can tweak the ingredients to suit your tastes... add more garlic if you're a fan, or add a little paprika for color and hint of smokiness.
