With summer winding down, back to school is at the forefront of everyone’s mind. I’m trying to get into the spirit with this Back to School Subway Art Printable. Since my children have been in daycare full time, and year round, since they were just 9 weeks old, ‘back to school’ never seemed like an overly big deal to me… until now – more on that in just a moment.
Today I’m joining more than 20 bloggers are hoping to inspire you with lots of back to school ideas, including recipes, crafts and organization ideas for you to kick off the year ahead of the game. At the bottom of this post you will see pictures with links to all the bloggers participating so you can visit each one. Plus, we’re giving away a $350 in Back to School Cash! And, as a bonus, the winner will also receive some tasty spice packets from Urban Accents – two dry glazes and two veggie roasters. (They are available at grocery stores, Costco midwest and online at UrbanAccents.com. They are the creators of specialty items for Crate & Barrel, Sur La Table, and World Market!)
So back to Ethan… this year, he will be going to first grade at the public school. Dun, Dun, Dunnnnnn! No really, it’s a big deal to me. You know how most moms freak out when their kid goes to Kindergarten? I never experienced that, but it’s hitting me big time now!
Maybe it’s because Ethan has struggled this last year. [I wrote about it in The Kindergarten Conundrum back in the Spring, and again in The Kindergarten Condundrum – PostMortem last month.] Or maybe it’s just because it’s a new school and there are big kids there – giant 5th graders!
As his mom, I want to both shield him from frustration, and empower him to cope and grow. It’s not always the easiest thing, and more often than not, I feel like I’m waging a battle against the protecting my ‘little boy’ and helping to to grow into a productive, compassionate, successful ‘big’ boy. I’ve said it time and again, but I didn’t think parenting got ‘hard’ until the teen years. Boy was I wrong!
My sister Kacey once said, “When done right way, parenting is not for the weak.” While she and I have very different parenting styles, that statement is one we can both agree on. Parenting is hard.
So I’m going to put up my little printable and get excited for a ‘back to school’ and a new year. For Ethan’s sake.
